EMILY's List Australia

EMILY’s List Australia is a financial, political, and personal support network for progressive Labor women candidates. It was established in 1996 and has chapters in each Australia state, with its headquarters in Melbourne.

You can read the brief history we wrote as part of our significance assessment earlier this year of ELA’s heritage collection, which found it had

historical significance at a national level for the breadth of its holdings and the associations it has with a large number of feminist, Labor women who collectively and individually have influenced a feminist and Labor agenda in electorates across Australia, a move towards affirmative action in the Labor party, and shaped, even changed, federal and state policies that negatively impacted women’s lives and ability to control their lives.
